It seems even multi-organ failure isn’t enough to convince a conspiracy theorist that their COVID-19 infection is real, a US doctor has discovered.

Emergency physician Dr Ryan Marino from Cleveland University Hospital in Ohio has gone public with his experience with a severely ill patient who refused to accept the virus was to blame.

“I’ve been called a lot of names and accused of a lot of things by ER patients but it’s surreal to have a patient accuse me of falsifying their COVID result [because] they don’t believe the virus is real — as I’m actively trying to keep them from dying from multi-organ failure from COVID,” Dr Marino wrote on Twitter.

He clarified his belief that he wasn’t blaming the patient.
