Doctor teaching psychedelic therapy in Australia sacked over sex with vulnerable patient

Dr Ben Sessa was stood down by Mind Medicine Australia after it learnt he had been referred to a tribunal.

Charity Mind Medicine Australia has sacked one of its psychedelic therapy trainers after the UK psychiatrist was suspended over a sexual relationship with a former patient.

Dr Ben Sessa — who described the relationship as a “blip” in his career — told a tribunal he was unaware that the patient had overdosed and attempted suicide during their relationship.

The patient has since died.

There was no suggestion that Dr Sessa’s misconduct contributed to her death.
