‘Doctors can’t but Woolworths can’: Supermarket giant offers rewards points for telehealth consults

AHPRA's rules allow for incentives in exchange for health services, as long as they do not encourage the patient to seek unnecessary care.

The RACGP and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia have come together on one issue at least – concern over Woolworths offering rewards points to customers for attending telehealth appointments and receiving e-scripts.

From July to September, customers can collect up to 1000 Woolworths Everyday Rewards points when booking a telehealth consult.

But there is a catch.

They have to use the website Healthylife, a Woolworths subsidiary, to book the appointment and they have to book the consult with the telehealth company Hola, in which Woolworths has a financial stake worth $10 million.
