Doctors in defamation battle over one-star Google reviews

Dr Scott Allison wants $500,000 in damages and compensation for economic loss from Dr Ellen Bolster, who denies writing the reviews

A cosmetic doctor is suing a business rival for allegedly posting fake Google reviews — a claim the accused doctor and her practice manger strongly deny.

Dr Scott Allison, a GP who works as a cosmetic physician in Brisbane, is suing Dr Ellen Bolster and her practice manager for $500,000 in damages as well as compensation for economic loss.

Dr Allison alleges they either owned or had access to the ISP addresses used to publish one- and two-star reviews on Google and RateMDs about his practice.

According to Dr Allison, the reviews, which appeared over an 18-month period starting in October 2019 and were viewed more than 45,000 times, had been written by people he had never treated.
