Doctors deliver no-confidence vote in hospital CEO in wake of surgeon’s sacking

Breast cancer surgeon Dr John Stuchbery's contract was terminated after 27 years with Albury Wodonga Health.

Senior doctors have given almost unanimous backing to a motion of no confidence in two hospital bosses weeks after they sacked a respected breast cancer surgeon.

A newly formed medical staff association at Albury Wodonga Health met last night behind closed doors to vote on the performance of CEO Bill Appleby and chairman Jonathan Green.

The health district remains deeply divided, with its management planning to redevelop the local hospital, which clinicians say will not be fit for purpose.

The issue has made headline news following a decision to terminate the VMO contract of Dr John Stuchbery, a breast surgeon who had worked at the hospital for 27 years but who had become a vocal critic of the management’s reform plan.
