Australian stillbirth experts have developed an educational video to help doctors reassure women they are not responsible.

The initiative aims to reduce the risk of depression and relationship breakdown in women and their partners.

The video is based on 2019 findings by Newcastle’s Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) that unexplained stillbirths are often the result of an ageing placenta.

The resource has has been published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and will be made available to obstetricians, midwives and counselling services worldwide.
