An obstetrician has hit back at claims that NSW hospitals are over-staffed and striking doctors are “well paid” by sharing details of her most recent gruelling shift.

Newcastle-based staff specialist Dr Emily Roman described her past 24 hours which included a 16-hour shift, followed by overnight on call, to arrive home just as her alarm went off.

She asked NSW Premier Chris Minns in a social media post whether he had ever done anything as important for “even a day”, as thousands of doctors strike over pay and conditions in the public system.

“Yesterday, I worked 8am to 10pm. Then I went home and slept a heavy four hours,” Dr Roman said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
