Doctors fight looming ban on using ‘GP-surgeon’ title
The college says it is 'unable to support' proposed laws covering the protection of the title 'surgeon', until clarifications are made
Doctor groups are lobbying for rural proceduralists offering common surgical procedures, such as caesareans and abscess drainage to continue to call themselves ‘GP-surgeons’ amid concerns the title will soon be banned.
The ban is likely to result from legislation now being introduced as part of a national crackdown on ‘cosmetic cowboys’.
