Doctors and nurses are to be given two days’ pandemic leave as a way of saying thanks for their work during the COVID-19 crisis in Queensland.

Along with extra leave, the state’s Minister for Health Steven Miles also announced a ‘Health Heroes Week’ to mark the efforts of those who helped get the state to zero cases.

“When you are a Health Minister during a pandemic, I can assure you that ‘zero’ days are the very best days — and today is a ‘zero new cases (day)’,” he told Queensland Parliament on Thursday.

Queensland recorded no new cases that day, but on Friday, a further two cases were reported, bringing the state’s total of active cases to 28 and 1145 cases overall.
