Doctors hope a parliamentary inquiry into long COVID will form “the beginnings of a national plan” to deal with the looming health challenge which has already cost Australians three million sick days.

The House of Representatives investigation examining the health, social and economic impacts of the condition will be chaired by Labor MP and paediatrician Dr Mike Freelander.

It is also expected to hear from doctors treating those with long-COVID.

“For some doctors, managing patients with long COVID can feel like putting together the puzzle pieces without always having the full picture,” the president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Dr Jacqueline Small, said on Tuesday.
