Doctors ‘horrified’ at COVID-19 parties

The RACGP's Dr Bruce Willett has condemned people's attempts to gain natural immunity through deliberate exposure to the virus

Leading doctors have slammed as “utterly ridiculous” COVID-19 parties or any attempt to intentionally become infected, after reports emerged of events on the Gold Coast.

RACGP Queensland chair Dr Bruce Willett says outbreaks from such gatherings have “the potential to overwhelm medical services”.

State chief medical officers have also warned against the practice after media outlets reported unvaccinated people were holding gatherings to intentionally expose themselves to the virus to develop natural immunity.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said she was “horrified” to think people were deliberately exposing themselves.
