Doctors who take parental, carer’s or disability leave are now being offered a $308 rebate on their annual AHPRA rego fees.

It follows a long campaign by doctors with young families who said paying the full fee — around $1027 for most doctors — was unfair when they were not practising and therefore not subject to the regulator’s scrutiny.

“We have listened to concerns and understand the cost-of-living pressures that practitioners who are parents, are pregnant, or have disability or carer responsibilities can face,” Justin Untersteiner, AHPRA’s CEO, said in a statement yesterday.

“Today is an important step in our ongoing process of making registration fee arrangements fairer and more flexible.”
