Doctors have called for more say in shaping environmental laws, as extreme weather conditions continue to underline the “undeniable” impact climate change is having on health.

Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) spokesperson and public health specialist, Associate Professor Linda Selvey claims the Federal Government is “rushing” through changes to give the states more responsibility for environmental assessments.

Changes to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, are set to be debated in the Senate, following the bill’s passage through the lower house.

However, Dr Selvey said the government was pushing on with changes, before a review of the act by Professor Graeme Samuel AC was complete.
