How do you remove a bee sting from an eyeball? With a referral to an ophthalmologist and a pair of jeweller’s forceps, according to US doctors.

The sting had lodged in the right eye of a 55-year-old Philadelphia man when he was stung by the insect, the ophthalmologists write in a case report.

The patient went to a local ED on the day of the incident and was discharged after the treating doctors reportedly removed the barb.

But two days later, he presented to the Wills Eye Hospital clinic with worsening vision and pain in his right eye.
