Doctors repaid $30 million in rebates last year, PSR says

Compared with the previous year, the amount of Medicare cash recouped was up 46%.

The PSR recouped $31.6 million for Medicare through 87 negotiated outcomes and 13 committee decisions last financial year, the watchdog’s annual report says.

This compared with $21.6 million in the previous year and $19 million back in 2021/2022.

Despite the 46% rise in money recouped, the PSR only received 109 referrals from Medicare in the most recent financial year, similar to the six-year historical average of 102.

It did not offer an overarching explanation for the higher repayment amounts.
