Australia’s largest rural GP corporate has reportedly been in “financial stress” and has been struggling to pay its doctors, staff and suppliers.

Tristar Medical Group operates about 50 bulk-billing clinics in every state and territory except WA.

Its managing director, GP Dr Khaled El-Sheikh, has been labelled “the Dr Ed Bateman of the bush” for his ability to bring IMG doctors on limited registration to work in rural towns that are unable to find VR GPs.

But the company has been falling behind on its payments to suppliers, doctors and other staff, according to a report in the ABC.
