A group of junior doctors and students have weathered storms, bushfire smoke, heatwaves and late night revellers in their campaign to support refugees by sleeping rough.

They have lasted more than 300 nights – almost a year.

Led by Dr Javed Badyari, the doctors, medical students and volunteers have slept outside for the most part in a mall in Wollongong, south of Sydney.

Their Indefinite Sleepout to End Indefinite Detention began with Dr Badyari and some friends in August 2019 as a way to highlight the plight of those detained as asylum seekers in Australia.
