Doctors unknowingly publish case reports on the same giant lipoma in the same journal

Cureus retracted the second paper after it discovered the error.
A swelling of 10cm × 12cm x 7cm was present over the left scapula at time of presentation.

In a bizarre case report on the industry of case reports, a well-known journal has published two studies on the same patient just two months apart.

The open-access journal Cureus, which is owned by Springer Nature, published ‘Giant lipoma: a case report’ by two doctors from Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences in central India on 26 January this year.

Their patient, a 42-year-old woman, had a large yet painless swelling over her left scapula.

“[She] felt embarrassed to meet people due to her physical deformity,” the authors wrote.
