A group of top infectious diseases experts are urging people to “pay it forward” when they have a COVID-19 vaccination to help fund immunisation in poorer countries.

Led by chair of the immunisation coalition Professor Robert Booy, the group is calling on Australians to donate $10 to UNICEF to provide one person in a developing nation with a vaccination.

The donation would not only help address global vaccination disparity but would also help protect Australians, said Professor Booy, director of the Immunisation Coalition Scientific Advisory Committee.

High income countries had reserved 75% of the world’s COVID-19 doses, yet only had 15% of the population, he said.
