Members of the Queensland AMA want instructions on voluntary assisted dying included in patients’ advance care directives if euthanasia laws are passed in the state.

A new survey shows 70% of doctors in the branch also believe all funding for consults on euthanasia and life-ending drugs should come from the state government.

The survey of 1250 doctors comes as the Queensland Law Reform Commission drafts legislation for the state’s parliament.

Queensland’s Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is promising to introduce the laws in May, which if passed would likely come into effect late next year.
