Emergency doctors have called for security guards to be embedded in Victorian EDs around the clock to help manage increasingly violent patients and carers.

With long waits fuelling an increase in aggression and violence from patients and carers, the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) says dedicated security guards in EDs could help defuse incidents “in a compassionate way”.
