Doctors have warned extreme sports enthusiasts against the use of body-mounted cameras, after a mountain biker’s serious liver injury from wearing such a device.

The 25-year-old experienced the “avoidable” blunt force trauma following a 3-metre fall while attempting a mountain bike jump in Victoria.

He was wearing protective gear and helmet, as well as a live-action video camera strapped to his lower chest when the accident occurred, doctors report.

“Travelling at 20km/h, he ascended a 2-metre ramp and lost control mid-air, landing over the handlebars, prone, onto his torso,” the Royal Melbourne Hospital doctors wrote.
