Doctors warn ocular monkeypox could impair vision

Doctors in the US have described five recent cases of ocular monkeypox in a bid to increase awareness the rare but sight-threatening condition.
Though the precise frequency of ocular monkeypox in the current outbreak is unknown, the case authors estimate that one in 20 infected patients report ocular symptoms.
Writing in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention doctors have outlined the experiences of five adults between July and September.
“All five patients with ocular monkeypox described in this report suffered prolonged illness, four were hospitalised, and one experienced significant vision impairment,” they wrote.
