Doctors working as nurse assistants to help out in UK crisis

Cardiologist Professor Richard Schilling is among dozens of UK doctors working as nurse assistants, volunteering to help teams stretched to breaking point in the country’s second wave.
With COVID-19 cases and deaths surging, the pandemic is putting a huge strain on NHS hospitals which are also experiencing critical nursing staff shortages.
Professor Schilling has been volunteering at Royal London Hospital’s Intensive Therapy Unit as a nurse assistant to help on the front line, he tells ABC News.
“I’m pretty useless in my normal job at this point in time,” said Professor Schilling, a cardiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust in London.
