Doctors worry vax rollout too slow as monkeypox cases surge

Australia is on the verge of significant local transmission of monkeypox as supply constraints cause the vaccination rollout to lag, warn infectious diseases physicians.
At least 89 monkeypox cases have been reported nationally, with most infections in Victoria and NSW and among men who have sex with men.
But infectious diseases specialist Associate Professor Sanjaya Senanayake says of most concern is the fact that Victoria has now established local transmission.
About half of the state’s 40 cases have been acquired in the community and have significantly increased over the past two weeks.
