Does the GP training program prepare you to prescribe ADHD drugs safely? The RACGP says yes

Dr Aileen Traves stressed that nobody was compelling GPs to treat ADHD if they felt unable.

Queensland GPs will be allowed to diagnose and prescribe medication for ADHD in adults from 1 December, without additional training.

The change, announced at the RACGP conference this weekend, sparked debate in the AusDoc comments.

While some called it a big win for GPs and patients, others suggested it would become “medical cannabis 2.0”, with telehealth corporates selling short consultations to patients desperate for scripts.

“Where are the guidelines for us to support our decisions?” one GP wrote.
