There has been an outpouring of support for a doctor whose son was believed killed by his father in a suspected murder–suicide, with a fundraising page surpassing $100,000 in donations.

Dr Sophie Roome’s two-year-old son Rowan was found dead, alongside his father in a unit in Lismore in northern NSW last month.

The GoFundMe page, set up by the intensive care specialist’s friend Belinda Olding, initially set a target of $5000, but within 24 hours it had received more than $40,000 from some 400 people.

Over 1000 people have now donated, bringing the total raised to $101,451 as of 11 June.
