Doubles trouble: Badminton players at risk of eye injury

It might appear to be a relatively sedate sport, but badminton can lead to serious ocular injury, researchers say.
Doubles players in the forecourt are at highest risk from flying shuttlecocks and racquets, they write.
Ophthalmologists from China, where the sport is gaining popularity because it is considered safe compared with contact sports, have reported on a case series of 52 men and 33 women with ocular trauma linked to badminton.
“Hyphaema is the most common injury and is prone to progressing to secondary glaucoma,” they write.
