Dr Bek Hoffman on privately billing, helping domestic violence survivors and why the two are linked

What does free healthcare for domestic violence victims have to do with GP fees?
GP Dr Bek Hoffman described “going through all the stages of grief” after the Federal Government announced its $7.9 billion pledge for universal bulk-billing in a GP webinar this month.
So it is unsurprising that her practice, Kirrawee Family Medical Practice in south Sydney, privately bills its patients.
But Dr Hoffman, the RACGP’s NSW&ACT chair, has also led a new partnership between her practice and a local support service called The Family Co to provide free, safe medical care every Tuesday for people enduring domestic violence.
