Dr Bruce Pussell: From top transplant physician to vaccine hub medic

The retired doctor says helping out during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a rewarding experience

Back in early 2020, Adjunct Professor Bruce Pussell — a retired doctor — felt he couldn’t sit back and watch the unfolding of one of the biggest health crises of his lifetime.

“Medicine is a vocation,” he says.

“And when there is a pandemic, it’s all hands on deck as far as I’m concerned.”

So when AHPRA announced it was introducing a so-called ‘sub-register’ that would allow retired doctors to help out in the COVID-19 response, he decided to volunteer.
