Dr Charlie Teo calls for AHPRA condition to be lifted because he can’t find neurosurgeons to sign off on his surgeries

Dr Charlie Teo has reportedly applied to medical authorities to lift a key condition on his practice so he can operate in Australia.
In a legal letter to the Medical Council of NSW, he has reportedly requested the removal of the condition requiring written support from a neurosurgeon before operating on recurrent intracranial malignancies or brainstem tumours.
Under conditions placed on his registration almost two years ago, the supervising neurosurgeon must have at least 15 years’ experience in the specialty.
Dr Teo has been operating only outside Australia since the conditions were imposed, which followed a finding of unsatisfactory professional conduct in 2023 by a Medical Professional Standards Committee.
