Dr Charlie Teo reaches legal settlement with family of glioblastoma patient who allegedly underwent futile brain surgery

The family claimed their psychiatric injuries were caused by the patient's immediate decline after 'unrealistic' surgery.

Dr Charlie Teo has settled with a family who attempted to sue him for more than $1.5 million over the death of their mother, who never recovered from brain surgery to resect a brainstem glioblastoma.

The husband and three children claimed that their psychiatric conditions were entirely caused by the woman’s immediate decline and eventual death following her “unrealistic” surgery.

The children also claimed future treatment costs for their ongoing depression, anxiety or prolonged grief disorder and — in the case of the husband — PTSD and alcohol use disorder.

The terms of the settlement is confidential. But the original statement of claim from the family showed that the woman was diagnosed in September 2018.
