Is the RACGP playing into the Federal Government’s hands by encouraging members to drop universal bulk-billing?

The language has not been subtle from its president, Dr Karen Price, who last year called on GPs to privately bill “as many people as they could”.

Record bulk-billing rates were causing serious harm to the specialty, she said, adding that rebates would not be increased unless rates fell.

“As far as the government is concerned, the electorate is happy, and that means it does not need to move,” she said.
