Dr Jamal Rifi sentenced in absentia to 10 years in Lebanese prison

Although he has received no official word, he believes his crime is his humanitarian work

Dr Jamal Rifi used to visit Lebanon every year.  

It’s his country of birth and he still has family there.  

But three years ago he stopped. He had been warned it was no longer safe for him. That he was a target.  

“I was alerted by people not to come back because the Lebanese authority under the instruction of Hezbollah would arrest me,” Dr Rifi, a GP in Sydney, told Australian Doctor
