Dr Jereth Kok’s lawyers weigh up potential Supreme Court appeal

There were 'significant issues' with the tribunal's decision, claims the Human Rights Law Alliance.

Dr Jereth Kok’s lawyers are considering an appeal after the GP was found guilty of professional misconduct over 54 online posts, following an almost six-year suspension under emergency powers.

On Friday, the Melbourne GP was found to have denigrated LGBTQI+ patients by suggesting homosexuality was a medical disorder and to have demeaned doctors who performed abortions, including by suggesting they were “serial killers”.

He was cleared over another 31 posts because the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal found they were political or religious commentary, or did not contain the meanings alleged by the Medical Board of Australia.

The Human Rights Law Alliance (HRLA), which represented Dr Kok, said in a statement it was weighing up an appeal based on what it considered to be “significant issues” with the tribunal’s decision.
