Dr Karen Price: ‘I found out I had breast cancer, days after being elected RACGP president’

She is sharing her story to encourage women to come forward for routine screening
Dr Karen Price.

Dr Karen Price says she will never forget when her phone rang last September and she was told she had been elected RACGP president.

After a gruelling campaign, and in a difficult year with many troubles, it was cause for celebration.

But Dr Price was in hospital being wheeled into surgery for a procedure to confirm whether she had breast cancer.

Her friend and immediate past college president, the late Dr Harry Nespolon, was front of mind, having died of pancreatic cancer aged just 57 just months earlier.
