Dr Kerrie Aust started medical school with two young daughters. This is what it took…

The Canberra GP was recently awarded the AMA’s Women in Medical Leadership Award for her dedication to the profession.

“I think as parents we are all aware that, even when we are trying not to bring the stresses of medicine home, we do,” Dr Kerrie Aust says.

“I have heard other women in leadership talk about the fact that our kids notice when we are worried about a patient or if something does not go particularly well in our clinical work.

“That feeling within your body, you bring it home, and they feel it as well.”

Dr Aust, who received the AMA’s Women in Medical Leadership Award in August, was already a mother to two young daughters when she started medical school in her 30s.
