Dr Michelle Telfer revealed as ‘Professor L’ — the expert witness savaged by judge in puberty blocker case

Nationwide News, the publisher of The Australian newspaper, went to court to reveal Professor Telfer's role in the case.

Prominent paediatrician Associate Professor Michelle Telfer has been revealed as ‘Professor L’ — the doctor accused of misleading a court after a mother lost custody to prevent her child from receiving puberty blockers.

Professor Telfer, chief of medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, is the former director of the hospital’s gender clinic.

She was also the lead author of the first draft of the Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents.

This year, she became embroiled in a legal case involving an 11-year-old whose parents were at loggerheads over puberty blocker treatment, with both applying for sole custody in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
