Dr Nicole Higgins: ‘Scope of Practice Review kept me awake at night’

Dr Nicole Higgins says that the first draft of the Scope of Practice Review, which hinted that nurses and pharmacists should get access to GP-level Medicare rebates, had left her awake at night.
The outgoing RACGP president has just completed two years leading the college through politically turbulent times.
“It was the failure to listen to general practice and the preset agendas and bias [in the draft],” she told AusDoc at its national conference in Perth last week.
“You have a look at how many mentions of nurses [versus GPs] were in the review.”
