Draft laws allow govt to publish what specific GPs charge using Medicare data

A bill to let the Federal Government publish what individual specialists are charging for common services applies to GPs as well, Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler has revealed.
Mr Butler had flagged a plan last year to publish what individual non-GP specialists were charging on the government’s barely used $24 million Medical Costs Finder website.
But in a surprise, the draft laws he introduced to federal Parliament on Thursday also covered GPs.
“While the focus is on the charging practices of non-GP specialists, GPs and their billing could also be published on the website in the future,” Mr Butler told MPs.
