ED doctors hit back at MP’s claim they ‘turn away people in need’

The ACEM is calling for a correction over Victoria Opposition Leader Matthew Guy's comments in The Age
Dr Mya Cubitt.

The emergency doctors’ college has pulled up Victoria Opposition Leader for claiming  in a newspaper column the state’s EDs “turn away people in need”.

The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) has called on Matthew Guy to correct the “misleading comment” he made in The Age on 14 March.

Writing in the opinion piece, Mr Guy started off by berating the current state government for allowing Melbourne to lose “its crown” as one of the world’s most livable cities, saying the city had “lost its way” due to pandemic lockdowns and endless mandates.

He then went on to say the state’s healthcare system had suffered from under-investment and mismanagement, claiming Victoria had the lowest funded and worst-staffed public hospitals in the country.
