Is this the end of the vocational register?

New laws promise to cut the red tape for GPs accessing higher Medicare rebates
Red tape

The vocational register is being put out of existence in a new move designed to cut red tape for GPs.

The register was originally created as a list of doctors whose specialty training or experience in general practice allowed them to access higher Medicare rebates.

But new laws are being put through Parliament that will see the register consigned to history.

In the future, the Department of Human Services (now called Services Australia) will use information from the Medical Board of Australia to determine a doctor’s specialty status and and whether they have complied with their ongoing CPD requirements.
