Expand funding for GLP-1 RAs and continuous glucose monitors: federal diabetes inquiry

Patients with diabetes should have access to longer subsidised appointments with allied health professionals and greater access to GLP-1 receptor agonists, a parliamentary inquiry has recommended.
Restrictions on continuous glucose monitors for patients with type 1 diabetes should also be scrapped, according to the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport.
After a year of hearings and more than 400 submissions, the committee handed down its final report last Wednesday.
Led by Labor MP and paediatrician Dr Mike Freelander, the committee called for the Federal Government to consider longer MBS-funded appointments, expanded access to case conferencing and a wider range of MBS items for allied health consults.
