Fate of NPS MedicineWise looks bleak after review backs $25 million funding cut
The future of NPS MedicineWise is in the balance, with an independent review backing the previous Federal Government’s decision to axe its taxpayer funding.
Worth around $25 million a year, the cut means the charity will lose 75% of its total revenue.
According to the original decision, made with no warning in this year’s federal budget, several of its functions will be moved to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, including ownership of the MedicineInsight bank of GP data.
The databank currently collects detailed prescribing information from 460 GP practices, covering 4000 GPs and 2.5 million patients.
