Hype surrounding AI technology is already turning into the 'trough of disillusionment', say experts

You may not have heard of the Gartner Hype Cycle but you have probably seen it in action throughout your medical career.


It was identified back in 1995 by a US marketing consultancy and is a bit like Marxist dialectics in its attempt to explain how historical forces work.

The Gartner Hype Cycle states all new technologies are initially over-hyped, until they reach the “peak of inflated expectations”, then, overwhelmed by the inevitable backlash, they are then driven into the
