Fed Govt funds $300 RSV shot, but states go it alone on needle-free flu vaccine
NSW, SA, WA and Queensland state governments will cover the cost of a live-attenuated needle-free flu vaccine for children.
A $300 respiratory syncytial virus vaccine will be free for all patients aged 75 and older and First Nations patients aged 60 and older, the Federal Government says.
With winter looming, four states are also funding the nasal spray influenza vaccine for children, FluMist, that has been credited with boosting the UK’s childhood influenza vaccination rate.
Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler announced on Sunday that the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine Arexvy will be added to the National Immunisation Program on 15 May.
The vaccine typically costs $300 on the private market, he said.
