Finerenone slows eGFR decline in patients without diabetes, Aussie research shows
Finerenone lowers the risk of chronic kidney disease and kidney events even in patients without diabetes, Australian research shows,
It is the first evidence that finerenone’s benefits in chronic kidney disease (CKD) extend beyond patients with diabetes, say the researchers, who published three studies this month in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and JAMA.
The New England Journal of Medicine study, a randomised trial called FIND-CKD — funded by finerenone maker Bayer — followed 1584 non-diabetic patients with CKD for three years.
Mean annual eGFR change was −3.3mL/min/1.73m² with treatment compared with −4.0mL/min/1.73m² with placebo.
