First Australian to undergo uterus transplant now pregnant
The first woman to receive a uterus transplant in Australia is pregnant, just three months after undergoing the landmark procedure.
Kirsty Bryant, from Coffs Harbour, had an emergency hysterectomy during the birth of her daughter in 2021.
When she was accepted into a uterus transplant trial, her 54-year-old mother agreed to be her live donor.
The 15-hour surgery was completed in January this year; 33 days later Ms Bryant was menstruating and in April, an embryo was transferred.
