First death reported from mystery vaping-related illness

Almost 200 cases of the disease have been reported in the past two months: CDC

The first death related to an outbreak of a severe lung disease among people using e-cigarette (vaping) devices has been reported in the US.

The death of an adult patient in Illinois, confirmed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), comes amid a spate of vaping-related illnesses that have baffled health authorities.

The CDC announced last week that 193 cases of the vaping-related illness had been reported across 22 US states between 28 June and 20 August, and that it was working with state health departments to determine the cause.

Authorities said there was no evidence that an infectious disease was behind the outbreak.
