First medical school for Top End
The Top End is set to get its own medical school for the first time with plans to offer places for medical students in Darwin by the start of 2023.
Charles Darwin University (CDU) will establish a school of medicine with the NT’s Menzies School of Health Research, to develop a homegrown medical program.
CDU vice-chancellor Professor Scott Bowman says the partnership and the medical school’s establishment are essential steps in delivering a medical program specific to the NT’s needs.
“As the Territory’s university, we will always put the needs of the Territory and its people first and this is a great initiative to meet the healthcare needs of this incredibly important place,” Professor Bowman said in a statement.
